Genetics is an important aspect of sporthorse breeding-you want to be sure that the stallion you choose is not the ONLY horse in his family with correct conformation, soundness, and performance ability! Members of Lose That’s immediate family performed at an exceptional level, and themselves possessed the type of conformation which would be an asset to any sporthorse breeding program.
His sire, Pass The Line, raced for four years, winning and placing in turf handicaps at distances up to 1 ½ miles. This shows exceptional soundness and stamina, quite dissimilar from the modern trend toward early-blooming sprinters. He sired stakes and handicap winners at distance on the dirt and turf, as well as winning steeplechasers.
Grandsire Pas Seul was unraced due to injury. He is by Northern Dancer, who sired numerous steeplechase and turf champions at classic distances. Pas Seul sired many winners, with an above-average earnings index, and shows the type of conformation which one would expect to make an ideal sporthorse.
Lose That’s dam, Wajima’s Lady, was unraced. However, she produced foals which raced two to three years each. Her sire, Wajima, another stallion of excellent physical type, raced at ages two and three. He was Champion 3-year-old Colt, winning stakes races from 1 1/8 to 1 ¼ miles, twice second at a mile, second to Forego at a mile and half, and second at two miles in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. Out of sixteen races, he won nine (five stakes) and placed in five (all stakes). He is the sire of numerous stakes and turf winners.
Her dam, Lucky Flirt, by Derby Winner Lucky Debonair, produced foals who ran for up to four years in the United States, Italy, Great Britain and France. Lucky Flirt’s half-brother by Malicious* started a grand total of 120 races in seven years! Her half brother A Touch of Class started 75 times in six years.
It is worthwhile to note that Lose That's pedigree also combines four distinct and important Thoroughbred jumping lines: Teddy, Nearco, French Grey (through the Tetrarch) and Blenheim II. These bloodlines have been extremely influential not only in the United States but in Europe in the pedigrees of many foundation stallions of the Warmblood breeds such as Ladykiller, Bonne Nuit, Pik As, and Furioso II.
